Cristina Kirchner with the head of Banco Nacion Juan Carlos Fabrega and Economy Minister Amado Boudou, during the announcement of a mortages plan in the bank, earlier today.
The Government claims that the bill passed by the Senate is not valid because it was not voted by an absolute majority.
Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner called on Vice-President Julio Cobos to “reconsider” his actions and make “a return to the Constitution.”
“He is not a ‘croupier’ in the Senate, he is an officer of the Constitution,” CFK said from the National Bank. “
“I call on everyone to go back to sanity and the Constitution,” said CFK during a ceremony at Banco Nacion.
“I don’t recall ever seen such behaviour in the Senate, like the one we all saw this morning,” said Cristina.
“They intended to pass a voting that needs a super majority for it to be approved and the Senate’s president took it for granted without respecting the Constitution,” she stated referring to what happened on Wednesday in the Senate, where opposition gave an initial approval to the project that extends the sharing of the cheque tax with a simple majority of those present. According CFK, the Upper House violated the Constitution.
The ruling bloc’s president, Miguel Angel Pichetto, said the cheque bill “is completely invalid because it was not voted by a qualified majority” imposed by the Constitution and he blamed Julio Cobos for “having validated an arbitrary interpretation” of the Magna Carta.
Speaking to Telam, Pichetto said that the opposition “made this arbitrary interpretation, contrary to the provisions of Article 75 of the Constitution, because they couldn’t reach a majority of 37 votes.”
He added that “they were able to impose this criterion thanks to Julio Cobos’ complicity.”
Earlier, the Cabinet Chief, Aníbal Fernández, questioned the reform for the same reasons and stated: “It is an aberration.”
